El Manto Bar of the American River

I love to trot down to the American River. On reason, is the fact it is so close to my house. I can't get enough of it. Also, I have seen some big Salmon come by me. Also the wild life that is in the American River parkway is very refreshing to see. The one thing that you have to do when you here is to watch out where you are wading at. I started to get about waist high in the water, but I found myself moving downstream. I could not move back towards the shore and started to drift out to the middle of the river. Now the American River is not a little stream. Luckily for me, I am 6'2", so I can tip-toe a bit. I made it to the far side of the river without drowning, but now I had to plan a way to get back on the side I started at. From you reading this post, you can tell I made it back, but I did get a bit wet. I didn't have to swim, but the water did creep up on me. I was more worried about the current, because it is strong on the American. People die all the time trying to mess around in it. I am happy to type for another day

North Fork Mokelumne

My first entry was from my excursion at the North Fork of the Mokelumne River. I thought I could go there find some nice fly water and possibly catch a nice trout. The biggest trout that I have ever caught was at least a 22' inch beast from the Truckee River in June of 2007.

The North Fork of the Mokelumne River presented me with many problems. First was the cost of petro. I was able to find a way to work around that obstacle, but I lost more time on the water. The second was trying to find a good place to cast my line. The North Fork of the Mokelumne River is steep, fast and is very cold. One slip could be it for me. I ended up do some rock climbing to find some ok place to fish, but in the process, my 5 weight fell apart in the process. Luckily I brought my 4 weight, but I just could not find a good place to cast to. After getting a little wet from sweat from the climbing, I just called it quits. So my drought continues on.
